Kumanovo
The town is populated by approximately 72 000 people and is at altitude of 330-370m.
For the first time Kumanovo was mentioned in the 16th century, when the Turkish writer Elija Qelebija in 1670 wrote that `the town had 700 houses covered with tiles, a mosque, a tekke, an inn and a public bath, a madrasah, watermill, shops…`
In the First Balkan War the Serb army defeated the Ottomans here.
From the town cultural events a special place should be given to the only festival of its kind in Macedonia – Days of Comedy. It is a review of the best comedies, actors and directors, scenographers, costume designers and playwrights from Macedonia and abroad. The manifestation takes place in the first half of October.
At the end of August in Kumanovo the international manifestation Kumanovo Jazz Festival is organized.
