Mariovo
The region of Mariovo was populated since ancient times, and it was also part of Ancient Macedonia, and a witness to that are the many fortresses and the findings of shields and other objects from the Ancient period.

In 1564/65 happened the famous Mariovo rebellion which was the first mass kind of resistance of the Macedonian people against the Ottoman Empire motivated by the illegitimate taxes and the unbearable living conditions.

Mariovo is a hilly - mountainous region in the south part of the Republic of Macedonia spread out on and between the slopes and the ridges of Selechka Mountain, Nidze, Kozjak and Dren Mountain. Through the whole region is flowing the river Crna (the middle flow) where is the longest gorge in the Republic of Macedonia, the 100 m long Skochivirska gorge which is also one of the priceless nature beauties in this area. On west Mariovo bounds with Pelagonija, on south with Greece, on north with the region Raec and on east with the upland Tikvesh ravine. The whole region of Mariovo is 1251 km long.

According to the flow of the river Crna the region is divided in Little Mariovo (the left side of the river) and Big Mariovo(the right side of the river). Between the people, and in many monographs is mentioned the division of Old and New Mariovo.
