Jubilee exhibition – 150 years from the birth of Dimitar Andonov Papradiski

On the 10th of June (Thursday), at 12h, the National Gallery of Macedonia organizes a jubilee exhibition – 150 years from the birth of the first Macedonian sacral painter Dimitar Andonov Papradiski, in the Culture Centre Magaza – Bitola.
Dimitar Andonov Papradiski is the most important person in the Macedonian painting that from the end of the 19th century had made the historical turning-point in the Macedonian painting. He was born in 1859 in the Veles village Papradiste. With his appearance begins the process of the slow neglecting of the esthetic of the traditional byzantine and post-byzantine painting, and the `Europeanization` of the profane art in the conservative environment.
At the exhibition will be represented around 40 paintings from all developing phases of his creation work that are in a possession of the National Gallery of Macedonia, the Museum of the city of Skopje, the Museum of Macedonia and private collections. The exhibition will be opened till the 24th of June, 2010. The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia.
