Wed, 06/30/2010 - 18:12
Departure from your hotel in a morning. After one hour drive arrival at the footsteps of `Macedonian Stonehenge` - that is the popular name of Macedonian Megalithic observatory Kokino. Kokino is located 1030 m above sea level on the `Tativec kamen` 32 km east from city of Kumanovo. According to NASA, it is the fourth oldest observatory (more than 3800 years old) in the world. The observatory defines the four main positions of the moon and three main positions of the sun, the autumnal and vernal equinox and winter and summer solstice. Astronomers and Archaeologists suppose there are three or four more such observatories in this region. Visit to the room of rituals and thrones. Coffee break.
Tour continue with descending to Staro Nagorichane and visit to the Church of St. George - famous by its rare monumental Byzantine art. After a short brake or optional traditional lunch in authentic village house, the tour continues to the village of Rezanovce, near Kumanovo.
Here you can see a private collection of over 500 authentic costumes from different parts of Macedonia, made of wool with traditional motifs. This unofficial `Folklore museum` is housing over 700 pictures, icons, souvenirs and other items - some of the classified as antiques. Early in the evening arrival to Skopje. End of tour.
