Kratovo and Lesnovo monastery

Departure from your hotel in a morning. After one hour drive arrival to the village of Kuklici. At the small vicinity from the village is located a natural phenomenon described in a scary local legend.
This, so called, Valley of the Dolls (Kuklici) is an area filled with natural sculptures made of the lava from the volcanoes in the area. If you use just a part of your imagination, you will see three women chatting, a husband, wife and a child, a small lady in evening dress, a wedding retinue…
After this interesting wedding ceremony of Stone dolls, the tour continue towards Kratovo, the picturesque town located on the slopes of the Osogovo mountain, at an attitude of 600 meters a.s.l. The city was erected in the crater of an extinguished volcano.
Famous also as the city of the bridges and towers, Kratovo is one of the oldest cities in Macedonia. Only 6 medieval towers of the city have been preserved to the present day, of total 12. The time of the construction of those towers has not been established yet, but their architectural style and the ornamentation used, indicate that those construction originate from the period of the Turkish rule.
After a short brake in this unique town, the tour continues on the slopes of Osogovo mountain and the town Zletovo.
The Lesnovo Monastery was erected by St.Gavril Lesnovski, a monk brother of St.Joakim Osogovski, St.Ivan Rilski and St.Jovan Bigorski. Located on the peaceful hill above the village, the small monastery church in the courtyard is hiding a marvelous iconostasis. After a short brake at the monastery, drive back to Skopje. Arrival early in the evening.
